The Disintegration of 'Nature': Post-Nature

2025

This is a minimalist visual fable told from the first-person perspective of animals, a tale of escape, disguise, and the quiet ache to survive. In a future shaped by technology, nature is no longer pure; sculpted by code, it dissolves into memory.

Some creatures slip away from the Crystal Palace, unwilling to remain mere ornaments beneath human eyes, only to find themselves wandering into new, transparent prisons. They chase the shimmer of freedom, always near, forever just beyond their grasp.

Escaping the “zoo,” a glass cage of observation, they attempt to survive by blending into human society. Wearing suits and masks, they walk the streets of London, quietly navigating a world that demands usefulness. For this work, we are fortunate to have access to three rare traditional masks — pig, sheep, and ox — generously loaned by the Chinese Nuo Opera Mask Museum. Animals often seen as peripheral or overlooked, they embody the quiet persistence of life at the margins. Cloaked in borrowed shapes, they drift onward, endlessly searching.

Ultimately, the project asks what survival uncovers about life, society, and the human condition.
